Taking to X to explain the decision, the Premier League Match Centre explained: "VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and determined that Maguire was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed."
During the Sky Sports commentary, Rob Hawthorne said: "VAR checking the fine lines here. Is that lean from Maguire just going to count against him."
Alan Smith added: "He was on the front foot ready to go and the Chelsea defenders just trying to hold that line.
"It was a good line just along the edge of the box."
Hawthorne continued: "And Chelsea's mood is lifted as the goal does not count.
"Maguire's effort is ruled out. This is how close it was. Offside by the shoulder.
Smith concluded: "That semi-automated is a move for the better, for the good. More accurate."
