The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Friday approved duty-free imports of polo horses for Indian Army and Navy teams, central armed police forces, and eligible civilian teams and players.
The rule takes effect from Saturday.
Eligible civilian teams include those who have participated in 14-goal tournaments recognised by the Indian Polo Association (IPA). Individual players with specific handicaps or achievements also qualify. Importers must get a certificate from a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
