The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a series of alerts as monsoon rains continue to lash parts of the country. Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha are among the regions facing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while other states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa are also expected to receive intense downpours.

The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Interior Karnataka, South Odisha, and South Chhattisgarh on August 18. In the Konkan and Goa regions and the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, rainfall is expected to remain extremely heavy until tomorrow. Gujarat is likely to see heavy rain over the next two days.
The weather agency also predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Jammu and Kashmir until Tuesday, while Himachal Pradesh will see showers on Monday. Uttarakhand and Rajasthan may also receive rain intermittently over the coming week.

Meanwhile, Mumbai and nearby districts remain under orange and red alerts as incessant rains continue. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the Ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara are on red alert, while Thane, Sindhudurg, and Palghar are under orange alert. The downpour has already caused multiple incidents in the city, including short circuits, tree falls, and a staircase collapse in Chira Bazaar injuring three people and killing two after a landslide.
On the other hand, Delhi will experience a generally cloudy sky with one or two light rain spells or thundershowers during the day. Minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 23–25°C, slightly below normal, while maximums will be near 32–34°C. The city can expect more rain in the coming days.
A fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is driving these heavy rains across central, southern, and western India.
