In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that left 28 tourists dead and several others injured, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday announced financial compensation for the victims’ families.
The government has decided to give an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the incident. Additionally, Rs 2 lakh will be given to those who sustained serious injuries, and Rs 1 lakh to those who suffered minor injuries.
The horrific attack took place on Tuesday afternoon in Baisaran, a tourist meadow near Pahalgam, where heavily armed terrorists opened fire on a group of civilians, most of whom were tourists visiting the scenic 'mini Switzerland'.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met the victims' families in Srinagar on Wednesday. He paid his respects by laying a wreath in a solemn ceremony that underscored the collective grief felt throughout the Kashmir Valley and the nation.
Family members, visibly distraught, shared their anguish with the Home Minister and the profound loss they experienced.
Congress MP KC Venugopal and Jammu-Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra also honored the victims during the ceremony.
The attack, which occurred in the scenic Anantnag district, marked one of the most significant terror incidents in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
Search and rescue efforts in the region continue, as joint forces of the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police carry out combing operations in nearby areas. Security across tourist zones has been stepped up, and an investigation is underway to trace those responsible for the ambush.
