Indore: ₹22.95L Fine Imposed On 9 More Liquor Shops

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The district excise department has imposed a fine of ₹22.95 lakh on nine liquor shops after confirming violations in the sale of liquor at rates either above the maximum retail price (MRP) or below the minimum selling price (MSP). This action follows a stringent inspection drive aimed at protecting consumer interests and maintaining regulation over liquor sales.

Three days ago, a penalty of ₹20.82 lakh had been imposed on eight other shops. With the latest fines, a total of 17 out of 18 registered cases have been resolved, resulting in cumulative penalties amounting to Rs 43.75 lakh. One case remains pending and is expected to be resolved soon.

The investigation, led by assistant excise commissioner Abhishek Tiwari, found pricing violations at 18 liquor shops of the district. After issuing notices to all license holders concerned, the department presented the cases before the district collector Asheesh Singh for final decision. The fines have been officially recorded on the department’s e-Excise portal.

The department has reiterated that all liquor outlets in the district are required to display rate lists and QR codes prominently. These QR codes allow consumers to check the MRP and MSP of various liquor brands and labels using their mobile phones.

The excise officials claimed that they were monitoring liquor vendors and taking strict action against pricing violations to ensure transparency and consumer protection.
