Mumbai: A 21-year-old student of Sathe College in Vile Parle, Mumbai, died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday morning after allegedly falling from the third floor of the college building. The deceased has been identified as Sandhya Pathak, a third-year BSc (Statistics) student. A senior police officer revealed that messages hinting at one-sided love were found on Sandhya’s mobile phone, along with medication suggesting she may have been undergoing treatment for depression. Police are now investigating which doctor was treating her and the nature of her medical history.
According to the police, Sandhya was found in a pool of blood near the main entrance of the college around 7:15 am. She was immediately rushed to Gawde Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment. Her mobile phone has been seized and will be sent for forensic analysis, sources confirmed.
An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at the Vile Parle Police Station, and investigations are underway from all possible angles. Police said no suicide note was found, but the messages on her phone are being closely examined to determine if any person can be held responsible for abetment.
Sandhya’s family has rejected the suicide theory. Her relatives said she was mentally strong, cheerful, and had even had tea with her family that morning before leaving for college.
“If she wanted to die, she could have jumped in front of a train or done it at home. Why would she go to college to do this?” her aunt questioned.
They further pointed out that while CCTV footage shows her going up to the third floor, no footage of her fall has been made available.

Sandhya was known to be a bright student and an aspiring author. Her debut English novel titled "The World’s Best Ex-Friend", a tale of love and heartbreak, was published in April on Amazon and received a warm response. Her relatives said she was ambitious and driven, and her tragic death has left her community shocked and grieving.
