Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): A Dubai-based businessman domicile of Ujjain was cheated in the name of mortgaging fake gold worth more than Rs one crore. Jiwajiganj police took a person into custody while his wife is said to be absconding.
Victim Qutubuddin (65) son of Qamruddin Najmi of Saifi Mohalla does fire fighting business in Dubai. He told that he also has a house in Pune. He met one Hozefa son of Mohammed Hussain Golwal, who lived on rent there. After this, he started coming to his house in Pune.
Hozefa collected information about Najmi’s business, financial condition. Najmi told that he came to Ujjain from Pune in October 2024. One day Hozefa came to his house with his wife Tasneem.
He had 1 kg 100 gm of gold jewellery. These had the seal of Pune’s Tawakkal Jewellers. Hozefa told Nazmi that his goods were about to arrive from Kolkata for which he needed Rs 1 crore. Keep these gold ornaments with you as security and give me Rs 1 crore in cash. To help him, he arranged the money in 4-5 days and gave him the money and received bank cheques.
When the suspicion of fraud by Hozefa and his wife Tasneem grew, Nazmi reached Pune with 1 kg 100 gm of gold. He showed the jewellery to Tawakkal Jewellers.
The jeweller told him that the seal on it was 5 years old but it was not the seal of their shop; it was a fake seal. Currently, they do not even use this seal. Nazmi said that he deposited the cheque given by Hozefa in his bank account. His cheques bounced.
When he contacted Hozefa, he gave him 4 other cheques of a dead woman. Those cheques also bounced and the bank informed that the cheques of a woman who had died 11 months ago had been stolen.
When Hozefa was informed about this, he created a fake bank message and sent it to Najmi’s mobile, which said that Rs 1 crore had been deposited in her account. However, when the bank was contacted, that message also turned out to be fake.
