While the Indian Army's bold Operation Sindoor drew praise from many quarters, a noticeable silence echoed through Bollywood. Except for a few voices like Sunil Shetty, most top actors chose not to comment on the mission. This silence sparked public criticism, with many questioning the industry's lack of support for the armed forces. But now, Sunil Shetty has revealed the reason behind the silence—and it has nothing to do with patriotism.
"Fear of Politics," Says Sunil ShettyIn an interview with India Today, Sunil Shetty explained why many stars avoid commenting on sensitive national issues like Operation Sindoor. He said,
“What was Operation Sindoor? We targeted terrorist hideouts. A ceasefire followed, things calmed down, and the situation is under control. But unfortunately, it got linked to politics. That’s why many actors chose to stay quiet.”
Shetty added that the fear of political controversy is what keeps stars from speaking openly, not a lack of concern or respect for the armed forces.
"No One Wants Their Name Dragged Into Politics"Sunil Shetty was blunt in his explanation:
“People assume that if an actor praises such operations, they must have political ambitions. No one wants to become a target of political debate.”
He also clarified his own position:
Sunil Shetty’s Upcoming Film ‘Kesari Veer’“I have no dreams of becoming a politician. That’s why I can speak freely—without any agenda or fear.”
On the work front, Sunil Shetty is all set to return to the big screen with 'Kesari Veer', hitting theatres on May 23. The film tells the story of Hamirji Gohil, a heroic warrior who defended the Somnath temple against the Tughlaq Empire. The movie also stars Akanksha Sharma and Suraj Pancholi, and is directed by Prince Dhiman.
