Arne Slot hits back at pundits over Liverpool opinion and aims subtle jibe at Man City

Arne Slot insists winning the Premier League is still the ultimate achievement. The boss accepts that pundits can have an opinion on whether the standard of the top-flight in England has fallen during a season which has seen his team turn the title race into a procession.

“If everyone had the same opinion, it would be quite boring. But Arsenal don’t have to win the Champions League just for us all to be sure that the Premier League is by far the best league and the most difficult league in the world.

“I don’t even think anyone can even debate that. Is it stronger than the season before or two or three seasons before? That’s up to everyone to debate.

“But during the week, we saw Aston Villa being so good against a team that, together with (Man) City, have unlimited amounts of money to spend.

“Villa are the team that is seventh in the Premier League and were unfortunate not to go to extra-time. They deserved it. That could be an example of saying ‘yes, the Premier League is really good at the moment.’

“You can look at things whichever way you want. But I don’t care how other people look at it. The only thing I care about is the league table. I like to look at it at the moment - and I hope I can still like to look at it in one, two, three, four, five or six games.

“I can give you examples from almost every game we've played. at home, even at home, Plymouth away, who are not even at Premier League level.

“ , I don't know where they are in the league at the moment, but they have players who could play for us. You don't see that in the Italian league, you don't see this in the Spanish league, you don't see this in the Eredivisie. You only see this in the Premier League and that's why it's such a popular league.
