Colin Firth's ex-wife Livia Firth has dramatically handed back her MBE and teared up the prestigious certificate over the UK's "appeasement" of US president Donald Trump.
In a lengthy message, Livia - who was handed her MBE for her services to the fashion industry back in 2019 - said she would be returning her MBE. She claimed she was doing this because she has "reflected" on Trump's visit to the UK.
She said she could not "reconcile the way he was appeased and honoured and legitimised" by the UK during a recent state visit, where Trump met with King Charles, Prince William and Katherine, the Princess of Wales.

"In 2019 I was given this MBE honour for my services in trying to make the fashion supply chain a more just and less deadly place to work for garment workers across the world," she said.
"Although I stand against the British Empire and remnants of that toxic system, I accepted the honour on behalf of the many garment worker activists who had educated and supported me. I also had great respect for King Charles, who was then the Prince of Wales, and his decades battling on behalf of social and environmental justice."

She added: "As I write this, we see that horrible excuse of a human (called Trump) in full flow at the UN General Assembly, his poisonous rhetoric amplified and legitimized. I have been reflecting on his visit to the UK last week and I am afraid I can’t reconcile the way he was appeased and honoured and, again, legitimized.
"In fact, last week’s display showed me nothing of those values I thought King Charles upheld - or its spirit. Rather, a frightening and cowardly display of appeasing someone who stands for the obliteration of the natural world and the most vulnerable people."

In a shocking video, she tore up her certificate and added: "Because I can’t reconcile those two positions, I have shredded my honour and I am returning it to sender.
"I know so many honourable, decent British people who will be unable to reconcile their deeply held values of fairness and justice with the grotesque pantomime we witnessed. I think it’s only by taking a stand that we can make our feelings known."
Trump was in the UK last week, where he met with King Charles. During his visit to the UK, Trump was given a military guard welcome and horse drawn carriage ride at Windsor Castle. There was also a specially curated exhibition of historical items related to the United States and he was given a tour of Chequers' Churchill archive.
Number10 also revealed prior to Trump's visit that the leaders were to dine on the "British favourite Dover Sole, served with peas and potatoes for the main and the American classic key lime pie for dessert".
