Nothing beats the satisfaction of a spotless bathroom, but they can quickly appear grubby and neglected when black mould crop up. Grout proves challenging to maintain as it's constructed from highly porous material, meaning grime and mould spores become easily lodged within.
Many turn to bleach for grout cleaning, yet this merely removes surface mould. Bleach cannot penetrate deeply enough to eliminate embedded spores, and without proper treatment, the mould may spread to tiles, causing lasting discolouration.
Nevertheless, Jayden Copeland, a cleaning specialist and founder of Backroad Bloom, has revealed that simple baking soda can effectively tackle even the most persistent mould.

She explained: "Because of its abrasive texture, baking sodais great at removing dirt and build-up. Its not too abrasive though so it shouldn't cause any damage to your tile or grout.
"It's a mild alkali which means it can cause dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water, so it can be wiped up and removed."
Baking soda is a fine granular powder that can penetrate porous surfaces to dislodge all mould spores without requiring harsh chemicals. It possesses sufficient abrasiveness to lift deep-set stains from grout and eliminate any accumulation whilst remaining a natural product that's considerably safer to use than bleach.
The top method to clean mouldy grout involves mixing baking soda with hydrogen peroxide, a disinfectant seen as a more natural alternative to bleach, and washing up liquid, which aids in removing any greasy soap stains from the grout.
Here's how to deep clean grout to eliminate mould
Firstly, don your gloves and grab a basin. Combine two parts hydrogen peroxidewith one part baking soda, then add two tablespoons of washing up liquid.
Your cleaning solution should resemble a thick, slightly foamy paste. Use your gloved hands to spread the paste along each grout line on a tile until they're fully covered.
Next, simply let the solution sit for 10 minutes as it needs time to break down the dirt and mould spores.
Once the time is up, use a scrubbing brush or an old toothbrush to clean the grout line. After just a few scrubs, the grout should lighten and appear much cleaner in mere minutes.
Use a damp cloth to remove any dirt, and then dry it with another clean cloth. Your bathroom tiles should now be completely white and free of mould without having to resort to bleach.
