There's no need to splash out on ketchupat the shops, as whipping up your own batch at home is dead simple and you've likely got everything you need already.

Ketchup ranks as one of Britain's favourite condiments to grab off the supermarket shelves, with most households keeping a bottle tucked away in the fridge or pantry.

It's a staple for countless dishes, but sales really spike during summer months when Brits fire up the barbies and tuck into homemade chips, grilled burgers and frozen treats. However, you might be gobsmacked to discover that all the bits for tomato ketchup are probably lurking in your kitchen right now. We're mad about ketchup for its delightfully sweet yet zingy taste, and recreating it at home couldn't be easier with just four basic ingredients, reports the Express.

One TikTok star demonstrated precisely how she rustles up her own homemade sauce. TikTok creator @hari. pollock simply grabs a bowl and combines the four components - no faffing about with cooking or blending required.

For DIY ketchup, you'll need:

  • Tomato purée
  • Vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Salt

In her viral footage, she chucks in a tablespoon of tomato purée, two tablespoons of vinegar, a "tiny" sprinkle of sugar and a dash of salt. She then stirs the quartet together with a spoon until everything's nicely blended.

"You make it for when you need it, and it's made from ingredients that you've probably got on your shelves already," she explained. The brilliant hack struck a chord, racking up more than 25,000 likes and 10,000 saves on the platform.

Another culinary aficionado proposed a flavour boost, suggesting to add smoked paprika with some garlic and onion granules to make it taste even more flavourful as it "makes a world of difference".

A third chimed in with their own secret ingredient: "Use honey as your sweetener rather than sugar and you get that sweeter aftertaste, also the tiniest splash of Worcestershire sauce hive a slight zing to the top pallette."

And voila, that's your homemade ketchup using only four ingredients from your kitchen cupboard - and it's delicious!
