'I spent £600 on National Lottery Scratchcards and was gobsmacked by what I won'

A man has shared his experience after forking out a whopping £600 on Millionaire Maker Scratchcards, chasing the dream of the £1 million top prize. With odds of 1 in 3.03 to win various cash prizes, user Jax embarked on a mission to beat the odds, captioning his video teasingly: "Can't believe how much I won."

Beginning his scratching spree, he revealed: "I'm about to scratch 120 Millionaire Maker Scratchcards - this could take a while. Let's hope the first one is a winner... the answer to that is no, let's hope there aren't too many more like this."

Fast-forwarding to the "halfway point" of his endeavour, Jax highlighted the stark size difference between his "loser pile" and much smaller "winner pile".

Having previously a further £1,100 on similar ventures in the past two months, Jax continued his quest, only to reveal at the end a disappointing return.

He revealed the sobering outcome at the end of his clip: "So I spent £600 on these Scratchcards - and the return was £360. That's a loss of £240."

He also included a warning against gambling, adding: "Stay away from the Scratchcards - you think you're going to win, but you're just not. Please don't gamble."

One TikTok user, aligning with Jax's guidance, commented: "They are terrible things. I used to spend at least a tenner per day buying them. Haven't bought one since 1st January. Been putting £10 per day in a tin. sorted."

Another shared their past experience, saying: "I used to work in a Spar shop when I was in uni. Watching people waste hundreds on lottery taught me all I needed to know. Never bought a lottery ticket in my life."

A third admitted: "I've never seen anyone make a profit on a video like this ever, poor man's tax."

Whilst a fourth TikTok user shared: "Same as any gambling, the house always wins."

In contrast, however, another Brit recalled: "A family friend won £250,000 a few years back, with his last 4 quid he bought two £2 ones."

Jax's exploits in March, meanwhile, resulted in a £420 return from £600 worth of scratchcards, whilst in April he clawed back £340 after spending £500.

Overall, that's £1,700 spent with winnings of £1,120 - an overall loss of £580.
