Liz Hurley's shocking inheritance plan as she hints she won't leave son any money

Liz Hurley plays a wealthy benefactor in a new reality game show, setting challenges from beyond the grave to decide which of the contestants will inherit her fortune.

But in real life, the 60-year-old actress hopes her loved ones blow their money on themselves before they die and leave her nothing. Which, sadly for her son Damian, is what she might do herself.

Liz, 60, who stars in Channel 4 series The Inheritance with Rob Rinder, talks of her feelings about bequests, saying: “I have a set of tiny porcelain coffee cups which belonged to my favourite great aunt – I think of her with every espresso.

“But I want everyone I love to check out on empty, having spent every penny on enjoying themselves. I’m not desperate to inherit anything.” On the subject of her 23-year-old son’s inheritance, she says: “I mean what makes you think I believe in passing anything on? I might go out on empty, you never know.”

In The Inheritance, Liz plays a glamorous benefactor known only as The Deceased, who has left video messages for the players from beyond the grave.

Thirteen strangers are sent to a stately home to compete for a share of her fortune. To release money from The Inheritance, players must work as a team to complete a series of challenges. The better they perform, the more money is released. Liz says: “I’ve died on screen quite a few times, but I don’t recall lying in a coffin before. I quite enjoyed it actually, it was very restful.

“My character, she’s basically known she was dying and video-taped a lot of herself in order for the contestants to see her so she could harangue them from the grave. I think it’s such a camp thing to do, to video yourself.

“I mean, I may do it myself. Just stash something in the cloud.” Overseeing the stipulations of The Deceased’s will is her executor, Robert Rinder, the criminal barrister who fronted the ITV show Judge Rinder.

Liz says: “I’ve enjoyed working with Rob very much. I was a fan of his anyway. We’ve followed each other on Instagram. He’s great. I really like him, he’s fabulous.

“We didn’t actually work together before on this, because I’m ‘dead’. All mine is pre-recorded, so I actually don’t have any live action. But we were on the set together.

“It makes me sound very shallow, but I loved the costumes very much and I liked my character very much. She’s not me, I can see some similarities in places – I don’t think she suffers fools gladly.

“I thought it was quite funny that she pre-recorded these instructions. So she pre-recorded herself walking around her estate and I found that quite amusing. I think it’s actually quite a nice thing to do. I can see people being inspired by it.”

Liz admits that when she was first approached by the producers, she wasn’t that keen. She says: ”I didn’t really understand it at first. They had to speak very slowly and clearly for some time for me to catch up. On the initial deck of graphics, my character wasn’t glamorous – she was very old, like 110.

“But they changed that, then added Robert and this stately home into the mix and I thought it was fabulous. I watched an episode of The Traitors and I couldn’t have loved it more. I thought, actually, yes, this sounds amazing. What a fantastic thing to do in the summer.

“This is a new format, and yes, there might be echoes of other games, but it feels fresh, original, and like the birth of an authentic human experiment.”

Away from work, Liz, who was previously married to Arun Nayar and dated Shane Warne and Hugh Grant, is in a new romance with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, 64.

Since they went public with their relationship in April, they have attended red carpet events, including the one for The Inheritance, together, and have been spotted dining on pub grub in locals near Liz’s £6million manor in Ledbury, Herefordshire.

Liz says: “Billy and I have had most of the summer off. We’ve seen both his daughters [Miley and Noah] play in London, which was great. He’s very supportive and that feels nice.

“We’ve adopted two tortoises, and I have become something of a bird watcher. We’ve just seen some goshawks. They’re unbelievable. Very, very rare. There are only 1,000 nesting pairs in the UK. Joking about her rural bliss, she says sarcastically: “I have a really interesting life. Wild. Parties every night.”

Filming The Inheritance in the countryside was ideal for Liz. She says: “It was beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. It was a pleasure to be there. It was early summer, the weather was fantastic.”

She has also spoken of her love of the outdoors, telling how she cuts hedges to keep fit. She says: “I don’t go to the gym, but I do try really hard to move a lot, and often. I don’t really sit down.

“I enjoy myself. I do like to eat, but I have an obsession with not eating processed food. The thing is about looking after yourself, being active properly, just being productive.”

* The Inheritance begins on Channel 4 on Sunday at 9pm.
