PoK Locals Beat Terror Commander at Funeral, Growing Public Anger Against Militants After Operation Mahadev

In a striking development from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), public anger against terrorism is boiling over. Following India's Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor, there has been a visible rise in resistance among locals toward militant activities and recruitment in the region.

Terrorist Commander Thrashed at Funeral

In Kuiyan village, JKUM commander Rizwan Hanif, associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, was publicly beaten by locals. The incident occurred during funeral prayers for slain terrorist Habib Tahir alias Chhotu, who was killed in Operation Mahadev in Harwan, Srinagar.

Chhotu was known to be recruited and trained by Lashkar-e-Taiba. Despite the victim's family explicitly requesting that Lashkar members not attend the funeral, Rizwan appeared with his armed security. When his nephew reportedly brandished a gun, tensions flared. Villagers retaliated by assaulting Rizwan with punches and kicks, forcing him and his men to flee the area.

Local Resistance Grows, Jirga Being Planned

The incident highlights growing frustration among PoK residents who are increasingly opposing terrorist recruitment. Locals are reportedly planning to convene a public 'jirga'—a traditional panchayat—to collectively denounce terrorism and prevent recruitment efforts in their villages.

Terror Camps Resurface, But So Does Public Resistance

A journalist from PoK has claimed that terrorist training camps have resumed post Operation Sindoor, with Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), and HUJI active in the area. However, after suffering heavy losses, these groups are now facing backlash from ordinary citizens.

Administration on Alert

Authorities in PoK appear to be closely monitoring the situation. A proposed conference in Khurahat (Tehsil Hari Gahla, District Bagh) was denied permission by local administration due to security concerns. The organizers were warned not to host the event, and police officials have been ordered to strictly enforce the ban.
