Elon Musk Quits Elon Musk has announced his retirement from the Trump administration. He was appointed as a special advisor in Donald Trump's second term. Musk was given the responsibility of the Department of Government Efficiency i.e. DOGE, whose aim was to cut down government expenditure.
Elon Musk DOGE: When US President Donald Trump won the election and was elected as the President of America for the second time, he appointed industrialist Elon Musk as a special advisor. As per Trump's election promise, the Department of Government Efficiency i.e. DOGE was also created in the second term, the purpose of which was to cut down unnecessary government expenditure.
Musk was given the responsibility of this department. Time passed and ignoring all the controversies that arose during this period, Musk tried his best to live up to Trump's 'expectations'. But now Musk himself has announced his 'retirement' from the Trump administration.
In such a situation, it is natural to raise the question that why did Musk decide to separate from the Trump administration and will DOGE also cease to exist now?
There was a talk for a long time that all was not well between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. People also noticed that Trump and Musk had stopped mentioning each other on social media. It was also being said that Musk was not being invited to White House events.

Whereas before this, the friendship between Musk and Trump was discussed not only in America but all over the world. Trump's election campaign was funded by Elon Musk and after the formation of the government, Musk had interference in many major decisions of the White House, but the last 4 months have changed a lot and Musk has parted ways.
Only 130 days of service
It would probably be premature to say that there is a rift in the friendship between Musk and Trump. Musk had posted on the social media site X thanking Trump for giving him the responsibility of DOGE and he himself had said that my fixed term for a special government employee is ending.
Actually, Elon Musk was appointed as a special government employee in Donald Trump's second term. He was Trump's special advisor. But under the rules, the tenure of this post is only for 130 days. If seen from the legal point of view, Musk had to retire after May 2025 anyway. However, it can be said that he has chosen the time to leave the post very thoughtfully.
There was a tug of war over the bill
- The US House of Representatives has recently passed the 'Big Beautiful Bill'. Trump has praised this bill a lot. But Musk does not agree with this. He openly criticized the bill and said that this will increase the budget deficit.
- In fact, the bill has provisions to increase the government's ability to borrow and extend the tax cut made during the first term for 10 years, as well as increase border security spending. Musk says that DOGE's efforts will fail due to the bill.
Disillusionment with the government system
It would not be wrong to say that Elon Musk was feeling suffocated in the government system and within 4 months he realized that it was time to get out. In a conversation with an American newspaper, Musk had said that it is worse than I thought.
Musk also had to face the consequences of government interference in the form of protests and this affected his business, especially Tesla. Tesla's vehicles were also targeted in many protests. But despite this, Trump used to make statements that hurt Musk's 'self-respect' from time to time. It is clear that Musk would now like to focus more on his business than on the government.
What is the future of DOGE now?
- The Department of Government Efficiency was responsible for reducing wasteful expenditure. Trump's election promises focused on saving taxpayer money. Apart from election slogans, when DOGE came into existence, the target was set to save $2 trillion. But over time it was reduced to $1 trillion.
- When the US government came to terms with the reality, the target was again reduced to $150 billion. Various funds and expenses were cut and according to the DOGE website, $175 billion was saved. But there is no need to tell how much less this is than the initial target.
- However, Musk has made it clear that DOGE will continue to do its work. He has also claimed that this will become a process for governments. However, the answer to what decision Trump will take regarding DOGE is hidden in the womb of the future.
