are at risk of having to rethink their loan strategy ahead of the summer transfer window. The Blues currently have 20 stars plying their trade elsewhere at present, including Carney Chukwuemeka (), Joao Felix () and (), in the hope of developing further.
Chelsea are then hopeful that the stints elsewhere see their top prospects improve so that they can be integrated into their plans, or sold on for profit if an appropriate offer arrives.
However, reports that Enzo Maresca's side are having a 'major rethink' about their transfer strategy this summer due to the success of sister club Strasbourg. The French outfit are thriving under manager Liam Rosenior, who recently penned a contract extension at the club, and have put themselves in the frame for European football.
Strasbourg are currently sixth in the , but they could move up to second with a victory over relegation-battling Angers on Saturday night - if results elsewhere go their way.
BlueCo, the group that own both clubs, were forced to park their shares in the French side in a blind trust last week, and there could be further implications of owning the two clubs. UEFA regulations rule that if both Chelsea and Strasbourg qualify for the same competition, no transfer deals will be allowed to take place between the clubs.
As a result, the Blues will not be able to send their top rising talents to develop under the mentorship of Rosenior, knowing that they will be given plenty of opportunities to progress in one of Europe's top leagues.
Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic are currently enjoying stellar seasons at the Stade de la Meinau currently, and the duo could both have played their way into Chelsea's 2025/26 plans as a result. Exciting Ecuadorian talent in anticipation of a loan move this summer.
If Strasbourg and Chelsea therefore find themselves in the same competition next season, those plans will be scuppered. The host of youngsters on the Blues' books are unlikely to be short of suitors if they are made available for loan, but it will certainly throw a spanner into the works for both clubs - with Strasbourg certainly benefitting from the system in place given how both Petrovic and Santos are thriving.
