Doctor Who boss rages 'I've no time for this' as he addresses 'wokeness' row

boss has fought back after a string of "wokeness" accusations, branding former fans of the show "toxic". He insisted he had "no time" for the claims, speaking as the BBC show returned last week with the current doctor at the helm and by his side.

In a new interview on BBC Radio 2, he stated that he was not necessarily adding woke elements to the drama "consciously", before raging: "Someone always brings up matters of diversity. And there are online warriors accusing us of diversity and wokeness and involving messages and issues. I have no time for this. I don't have a second to bear [it], because what you might call diversity, I just call an open door." Davies then urged the show's detractors to reconsider, cautioning: "Why limit yourself? Why breathe in the exhaust fumes? Why be toxic? Come over here where the life and light and air and sound is."

Varada Sethu also addressed the woke claims as she made her debut as Belinda Chandra, acknowledging: "There's been a couple of 'Doctor Woke' [comments], but I just think we're doing the right thing if we're getting comments like that."

Her comments come amid intense rumours that the BBC might be set to axe the show due to dwindling audience numbers. These reports - along with rumours that Gatwa could be leaving his role - are unconfirmed, and the BBC stated that a decision on subsequent series would not be made until after the current one ends.

However, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) slapped a warning on it due to "exploitative" and "discriminatory" aliens.

In a statement that had many fans' eyes rolling, the PG warning for episode two stated: "References are made to discrimination and to the exploitation of people by more technologically advanced civilisations."

The debut episode carried a warning as well, due to the show "reflecting the broadcast standards, language and attitudes of its time".

Nostalgic Brits longing for a taste of the Doctor Who of the old days didn't appreciate the trigger warnings, while claims have also been made that the current lead characters are unrelatable.
