If you're tired of constantly cleaning dust, particularly on those hard-to-reach areas like skirting boards and blinds, this is a solution you might want to try. These surfaces often attract dust due to static electricity, leaving your home looking rather unkept. The solution might be simpler - and perhaps even cheaper - than you think.
Kerry, a cleaning expert and creator at Blissful Domestication, has shared an easy method to combat this persistent problem, and it all revolves around a single, household item. She said: "My top tip for a quick clean of venetian blinds? (I have them all over my house) Use a tumble dryer sheet for a quick dust."
It might seem unusual, but dryer sheets can do more than just soften your laundry, as they are designed to have an anti-static coating that prevents clothes from sticking together.
When applied to surfaces like skirting boards and blinds, this coating absorbs static electricity, stopping dust from clinging to your home's surfaces.
Kerry explained: "The sheet just picks up all the dust perfectly and smells amazing too."
"Also extremely useful for dusting the tops of your skirting board," she added.
Not only do dryer sheets help reduce static, but they are often coated with fabric softener, which leaves behind a thin, waxy layer.
This layer acts as a protective barrier, making it harder for dust to settle on your surfaces, giving your home a cleaner look for longer.
How to remove dust from blinds and skirting boardsTo keep your skirting boards and blinds dust-free, simply start by wiping the areas down with a damp sponge soaked in warm, soapy water.
Vacuuming can also be a great way to prepare the area, followed by a quick mop.
Then, make sure you dry the surfaces properly with a microfiber cloth to ensure they are not wet, as moisture can attract more dust.
Afterward, rub the dryer sheets across your blinds and skirting boards, as well as any windowsills or bookcases in the room.
