Matheus Cunha reportedly insisted on being given 's No. 10 shirt during contract negotiations with . With the star on his way to Old Trafford and Rashford expected to bid farewell this summer, part-owners are set to give Cunha exactly what he wants.

Agreements are believed to be in place for Cunha to be unveiled by the Red Devils early in the summer transfer window, which swings open on Sunday. United are set to trigger the 26-year-old's £62.5million release clause and complete a move for a player with the attacking firepower so desperately needs.

While a swift resolution was reached to secure an early-window deal, Cunha did come to the table with demands he was not willing to bend on. According to , he insisted on getting the No. 10 jersey during contract talks with United chiefs.

The iconic shirt has been worn by the likes of Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy in the past, and it currently belongs to Marcus Rashford. The Cunha deal going through imminently provides yet more evidence that Rashford is virtually certain to leave the Red Devils this summer, having spent his entire senior career on their books.

Rashford spent this season on loan at Aston Villa, who have a £40m buy option but may not be able to afford his astronomical wages.

Sources close to Cunha reportedly believe that he would relish the pressure of wearing the No. 10 jersey, and he sees himself as a prominent fixture in Amorim's plans for next season.

Cunha finished the campaign with 15 Premier League goals - nearly twice as many as the joint-top-scorers in United's squad, Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes. And he is seemingly a natural fit for the left-sided attacking midfield role behind the central striker.

Amorim addressed United's summer transfer plans during a press conference in Malaysia on Tuesday. The Portuguese urged supporters not to expect too much incoming activity at Old Trafford, but he admitted that some important signings will have to be made.

"We always prepare two plans," he said. "One with Champions League, one without Champions League. Without Champions League, we don't need a big squad, we can control the squad in a better way.

"Then we have a plan that is to bring some new players, of course. But our big plan is to improve the team that we have, to improve our academy, that is the future. We are not going to change so much because we have the FFP rules, we are not allowed to do much this summer."
