Monty Don has been cheekily branded "diabolical" by his very own fans after sharing his favourite way of eating cucumber on Instagram. The 70-year-old Gardeners' World host posted a photograph last night of cucumber sizzling in a pan, coated with a hefty amount of cream and butter.
He captioned the post: "My favourite way to eat cucumber - quickly fried in butter and then a splash of cream, some salt, let bubble for a minute or so, sprinkle with fresh oregano and serve piping hot." While Monty clearly enjoys the dish so much he wished to share it online, his fans were left unimpressed and confused.
One person commented: "Monty's most controversial post ever!" A second remarked: "This is the worst thing I have ever read in my life."
Someone else said: "Monty, this is diabolical," while another added: "OK, Monty, I'm going to have to pretend this didn't happen."
Despite the criticism, another person said, "I love the sound of that. I have really enjoyed cucumber in stir fries and even cucumber curry, but I have not tried it like this!"
Someone else asked: "Have you ever thought of doing a cooking book, Monty? I love it when you put recipes on here."
Away from cooking, it's been a busy week for Monty, who met with Queen Camilla at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London on Monday afternoon.
The royal was at the trust for the unveiling of the new Dog Garden, which Monty and designer Jamie Butterworth created.
On her arrival, rescue dogs and volunteers greeted her Majesty, who is a dog lover and patron of the charity.
Monty said at the event: "It's so important to give dogs a space where they can be free to run around and smell and sniff things as they prepare for their new lives ahead."
