Outlander fans have been wowed by the unbelievably scenic Scottish Highland landscapes on screen for years - but the latest, and final, installment also zones in on the city of Glasgow. From there, fans can take a bus tour to all of the best-loved locations they've seen on the show.

Glasgow might have had a reputation as the "murder capital" in the 1960s due to its brutal gang violence, but now it's known as a UNESCO City of Music, launching more musical events per week than any other Scottish city. Meanwhile, the new Outlander series will take fans back further than either era, immersing viewers in both the 1700s and World War I, where intense love stories unfold. GetYourGuide runs a one-day adventure tour whisking viewers away from the city to villages that seem almost frozen in time, dotted with vintage cars and retro clothing shops, while the landmarks will instantly bring back vivid memories of watching the show.

It includes the historic Outlander filming location Doune Castle, which was also used in Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Both Terry Jones from Monty Python and of course Sam Heughan, who played Outlander's Jamie Fraser, narrate on the audio guide, with Sam sharing how he felt learning Gaelic was the only authentic way to immerse himself in his role, despite finding the language a little tough.

Our coach driver confessed that native Scotsmen often find Hollywood actors' interpretations of their accents hilariously poor, mentioning Braveheart as an example, but he was much more complimentary about Balmaclennan-born Sam's Gaelic efforts.

The tour also travels to the cobble streets of Culross, with its neon yellow palace - fans will soon spot Claire's herb garden behind it, which appeared in the fictional village of Cranesmuir - and Falkland, which in real life is much further south than the 1940s Inverness it portrayed.

Virtually every building in its main street looks like a castle, while visitors can also enjoy glimpses of Mrs Baird's Guesthouses and the Bruce Fountain, before journeying onwards to Midhope Castle to snap a photo on the iconic steps of Lallybroch.

Then there's Blackness-on-Sea, which is twinned with St Tropez: an especially atmospheric moment is climbing the twisting stone steps of Blackness Fortress, known as "the ship that never sailed" due to it appearing like a boat from a distance as a trick to ward off Viking invaders.

There are also newer Outlander locations, and as soon as you're back in Glasgow, you'll want to explore Park Gardens, bordering Kelvingrove Park, which was closed off for a period last year while secret filming took place.

In the grounds is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which is free to enter and has an impressive natural history collection to rival London and Oxford's Natural History Museums.

Basing yourself in Glasgow is the best way to connect with the latest series of the show, and there's one amazing hotel which you'll clap eyes on before you even leave Glasgow Central Train station - the Voco.

It's literally a few steps from the concourse, so it couldn't be more convenient for getting on a train the next day, and the Champagne Bar has amazing snacks, sharing plates, main courses and desserts to satisfy hunger pangs.

Another hotel with huge character is the Radisson Red, which is packed with quirky pop art, wardrobes with bright red interiors, stunning views from the windows of the urban skyline, including the BBC Scotland studios and the River Clyde, and a youthful feel that you can appreciate at any age.

For a budget option on the other hand, the EasyHotel Glasgow is the best choice: rooms are compact, but the bathroom, with its bright orange door designed to look like an easyJet aeroplane toilet cubicle, will make you smile.

It's no frills and doesn't serve breakfast, but there's a Tesco a minute's walk away which stays open until midnight, and a Greggs equally close by, so self-catering and budget dining is covered.

Convenient, comfortable and great value for the price range, it's close to all the city centre locations, including shopping, bars and nightclubs, so you can't go wrong.
