Prince William could see Prince Harry's rumoured next move as a "betrayal" if it does go ahead, an expert has said. Last week, it was widely reported that Harry, who quit royal life in 2020, could make a documentary about his late mother Princess Diana as part of the Netflix deal he has, along with his wife Meghan Markle.
The rumoured documentary would reportedly be released in 2027 to mark 30 years since his mother died in a car crash in Paris. While the Duke of Sussex, 40, has appeared in documentaries before about his mother, this would be the first he would have produced alongside Netflix. The news of the potential documentary was revealed by The Sun, which claimed the idea was currently in talks.
An industry source told the tabloid: "If Harry wants to do it then Netflix will bite his hand off."
While the documentary isn't currently confirmed to be definitely going ahead, one expert believes that if it does, it will be seen as a betrayal by Harry's estranged brother Prince William, 43.
This is because if the documentary goes ahead, William is extremely unlikely to be a part of it, with the brothers having reportedly not been on talking terms since Harry released his bombshell memoir Spare in 2023.
Talking exclusively to Express.co.uk, brand and culture expert Nick Ede said: "Harry and his brother made a pact to keep her (Princess Diana) memory sacred and to preserve it in the best possible way, so William may see this as a betrayal and a way of cashing in on the anniversary."
While Harry hasn't produced a documentary about his late mother since quitting royal life five years ago, he did feature in a Netflix docuseries with his wife Meghan.
The show, Harry and Meghan, was all about the couple sharing their story about life as royals and why they stepped back to relocate to Montecito, California.
It was believed that the show could have contributed to the royal rift between Harry and his relatives, with the couple at times being critical of the Firm.
It has also been claimed by royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams that if Harry does make a documentary about his late mother, it could worsen the rift he has with the Royal Family.
The Express has contacted Prince Harry's representatives.
