Samsung is gearing up to launch its next batch of foldable Galaxy phones that will replace its Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, and has finally confirmed when the big announcement will happen.
For years Samsung has branded its phone launches as 'Unpacked' events, and you will be able to tune in to the next one at 3pm UK time on Wednesday July 9. You'll be able to tune in and watch it live and for free on .
"On July 9, Samsung Electronics will host Unpacked in Brooklyn, New York - a borough with an extraordinary spirit and a distinctive history," Samsung said in a blog post.
"Brooklyn is where visionary thinking and bold ideas shape the future, so it's only fitting that Samsung unveils the latest and greatest additions to the Galaxy portfolio in a place known for its culture, creativity and collaboration."
Samsung usually unveils its latest Galaxy S series Android phones in January or February, with the foldable Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold phones launching together later in July or August. It's always frustrating if you have an older version of these phones to then watch the launch event and see how your phone has been improved upon, but if you are due an upgrade then it's worth waiting for July 9 to see if these latest gadgets will end up on your shopping list.
The launch will mark Samsung's return to New York for a Galaxy phone event after hosting last year's foldable event in Paris, and in Seoul in 2023.
We've got used to Samsung releasing a Flip and Fold at these events but the company has teased that one of the new devices being announced will bear the 'Ultra' name. From promo videos, it appears the Ultra phone will be a book-style foldable like the Z Fold 6, but it's unclear if Samsung is adding a third phone to the line up or rebranding the Fold.
Samsung pioneered the folding phone category with the launch of the original Galaxy Fold in 2019, but the Z Fold 6 was significantly thicker in design compared to the stunning Honor Magic V3 and even Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Samsung is responding to this by teasing the new Ultra foldables thinness. The firm released a thinner version of the Z Fold 6 called the Z Fold Special, but it was only for the Korea and China markets.
Folding phones all remain somewhat prohibitively expensive, too, with the Z Fold 6 retailing for £1,799. Perhaps the killer feature Samsung needs is a price cut.
