Bhopal: Bhopal police have registered a case against a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman, blackmailing her, and pressuring her to convert. The woman is from a minority community.
The accused youth's mother has also been named as an accomplice. Both of them have been charged under BNS and MP Freedom of Religion Act.
The complainant has alleged that the accused, a liquor store employee, began stalking her when she began working at a garments shop around eight months ago, say police. He gave her his mobile number and insisted that she call him. She resisted for weeks but eventually they became friends, she says in her complaint.
He took her home one day and she agreed because his mother was there. But once inside, he allegedly got her drunk and raped her when his mother was in another room, says the complaint. He took videos of the rape and began blackmailing her, she alleges. Driven to desperation by his harassment and threats to kill her father and brother, she and her family moved to a new home but to no avail, she alleges.
When the accused threatened to share her video on social media unless she converted her religion, the woman approached Shahjehanabad police on Friday night. The case was registered at Chhola police station. ACP Richa Jain said the accused youth and his mother were arrested and presented before a local court, which remanded them in jail.
