THANE: In Thane on Monday, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde announced that the state is building a Samvidhan Bhavan (Constitution House) in each taluka to honour Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and the Constitution.
Addressing the Thane media on Dr Ambedkar's 134th birth anniversary, Shinde emphasised that Ambedkar, a global icon, not only earned the Bharat Ratna but is also honoured worldwide for uplifting the oppressed classes and integrating them into mainstream society.
“It was only due to his constitution that citizens from common backgrounds like President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, and a farmer’s son like me got the opportunity to rise to prominent positions... The state is honouring Dr Babasaheb's efforts and contributions to the country. The work on constructing Samvidhan Bhavan (Constitution House) at every taluka level is ongoing, along with the grand memorial being developed in Mumbai,” he said.
He added that the state govt initiatives are in sync with Ambedkar’s vision. Schemes like the Laadki Bahin and farmer-focused policies reflect Babasaheb's principles, Shinde said.
Targeting the Congress, Shinde criticised Rahul Gandhi (without naming him) for misleading the public with false narratives about attempts being made to amend the constitution.
He pointed out that it was only under PM Modi's leadership that Constitution Day began being observed in 2015. He also called out Congress for neglecting Ambedkar and his contributions.
Shinde further dismissed rumours of internal tensions within the Mahayuti and denied reports suggesting he was upset about not speaking at Chaityabhoomi.
MP Naresh Mhaske echoed this, clarifying that any speculation about UBT joining the govt was a misinterpretation of Minister Chandrakant Patil’s statements.
