Ajay Devgn's highly awaited film Raid 2 is off to a strong start ahead of its theatrical release on Thursday, May 1.

The film's advance bookings indicate a promising performance at the box office. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film has already garnered a net collection of Rs 2.87 crore from the sale of over 1.08 lakh tickets across India.

Including blocked seats Raid 2 has already amassed a total Day 1 advance collection which is expected to climb to Rs 4.94 crore.

The state of Maharashtra is currently leading the charge, contributing an estimated Rs 1.23 crore to the advance booking tally. Delhi follows closely with collections amounting to Rs 83 lakh.

Starring Ajay Devgn in the lead, the film also features Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. Raid 2 is the sequel to the 2018 hit Raid and carries forward the high-stakes narrative centred around income tax investigations and corruption.

Industry insiders are hopeful that the film’s momentum will translate into healthy box office numbers, especially given the recent challenges faced by theatrical releases.

Commenting on the evolving film landscape, producer Bhushan Kumar noted, “Something happened due to COVID. After that, a lot of content started appearing on OTT platforms, which continued to entertain people from home. And when people started coming back to the theatre, the content was somehow not as per their expectations. Now things are better. See, Jaat worked, Chhaava, Kesari 2, Diplomat… so many films became successful. Now, Raid 2 is coming. Hope this will also work and entertain people.”

He further emphasised the need for filmmakers to stay in tune with audience preferences: “Everyone should make their films according to the taste of the public, so that as many people as possible can come to the theatre and enjoy the films. And with that, the business of the whole industry will increase, and there will be benefit.”

As the film is also set to enjoy an extended weekend, all eyes are on the box office to see whether its early booking buzz translates into success. The film is also set to clash with the Marvel superhero movie 'Thunderbolts' which will have an early release in India tomorrow, May 1. Considering that this MCU film sees rather new faces than popular heroes who have built a fan-base in India, it would be interesting to see how well the film performs.

Ajay was last seen in the Rohit Shetty cop film 'Singham Again'. The film sadly failed to perform well at the box office.
