Sometimes, playing a character can feel like stepping into a world completely opposite to your own. That’s exactly what happened with actress Shivani Gosain, who is currently seen playing the character of Kamini in the TV show Rishto Se Bandhi Gauri. Recently, she opened up about portraying one of the most negative characters in the show and despite playing such a role, how she manages to stay positive.
Speaking about her character she said, “I have played many types of characters—positive, negative, and even those with grey shades—but the one I’m playing in Sun Neo’s Rishto Se Bandhi Gauri is extremely cruel. Honestly, I’ve never done a role like this before. Even the look of this character is something I’ve never tried. It took me a long time to accept it because I just didn’t feel comfortable in this get-up. The tightly tied hair and the kind of sarees she wears—it doesn’t feel like me at all. Whenever I dress up as her and look in the mirror, I don’t even want to recognize myself. But as an actor, I have to do justice to the role. This character only cares about money and her son. She has no love or attachment for her brother or his children. She is cold-hearted and ready to destroy a whole family.”
She also opens up about the emotional challenges of playing such a heartless character, She said, “Playing such a negative character at this level is very challenging. I’m someone who believes in spreading positive energy and always staying happy. So, when I read some of her dialogues, I feel uneasy. To keep myself balanced, I meditate before performing such intense scenes. It helps me stay calm and makes sure the negativity of the character doesn’t affect me personally. I meditate both at home and sometimes on set in between shots too.”
The Rishto Se Bandhi Gauri actress further said, “I love acting and performing on set gives me a lot of joy, but I also work hard to protect who I really am. I make sure the negativity of the character stays only in front of the camera. In fact, I pray that no one in real life ever meets a person like this—not even someone I don’t get along with.”
