A surreal incident at a high-profile wedding ceremony in southwest Kenya has gone viral after a man was caught on video clinging to a helicopter as it lifted off, forcing an emergency landing.

The bizarre scene unfolded during a lavish ceremony in Rapogi, Migori County, on Sunday, where a large crowd had gathered to watch the event. In widely shared footage, a helicopter is seen taking off with nothing appearing out of the ordinary—until a man suddenly grabs onto the landing skid and holds on as the aircraft rises above the trees.

Stunned onlookers watched in disbelief, many filming the spectacle on their phones. According to police, the man, identified as 28-year-old bicycle repairman Odhiambo Ouma , had initially approached the helicopter asking for money from its occupants. When denied, he reportedly asked for a ride and was refused again.

Uriri sub-county police commander Enrico Lyomu told TUKO.co.ke, “After the incident, we began a search. He tried to escape and was very violent, but we managed to arrest him.” Lyomu confirmed the man had resisted arrest, requiring three officers to subdue him at his home.

“The man had tried to beg for money from the occupants of the helicopter. When he was denied, he asked for a ride and was refused again. It was at this point that he grabbed hold of the vehicle,” Lyomu said.

Once the pilot realized someone was clinging to the chopper, he made an emergency landing in a nearby field. Local media reported that Ouma had begun to feel exhausted in mid-air and was relieved when the helicopter finally landed.

Lyomu confirmed Ouma will face legal action: “He’ll face charges for risking lives, including his own.” The helicopter was reportedly carrying several passengers, including popular YouTuber Oga Obinna, according to local reports.

Police Commander Lyomu issued a stern warning in response to the incident: “This should serve as a warning. It’s extremely dangerous, and anyone attempting such acts will face legal consequences.” The video continues to circulate widely on social media as viewers express shock at the life-threatening stunt.
