NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said her party would extend full support to any action the central government decides to take in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack , which claimed 26 lives of civilians. She noted that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) had already passed a resolution reflecting this position.
Speaking during her two-day visit to Wayanad, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary expressed hope that the Union government would act decisively to avenge the killings of innocent civilians.
"The Congress Party... the CWC met, and we passed a resolution. In the resolution, we have said we stand fully with whatever action the government decides to take. And we hope that they take the action soon," she told the news agency PTI.
Earlier on Friday, the Congress had called on the Centre to respond firmly to the terror attack and take measures to hold Pakistan accountable for its continued support of terrorism.
The party also demanded a time-bound investigation into the "serious lapses" in security and intelligence in what it described as one of the most heavily-guarded regions in the country.
These remarks were included in a resolution adopted at the CWC meeting chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi.
Earlier in the day, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence amid escalated tensions between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack.
This comes a day after PM Modi held a meeting with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence in the national capital.
PM Modi chaired a high-level security review meeting, which was attended by the heads of all three armed forces, defence minister Rajnath Singh, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
