Mohali: Punjab vigilance bureau has named regional transport officer (RTO) of Mohali, Pradeep Singh Dhillon , in a corruption case filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act . This development comes after statewide raids were conducted at various regional transport authority (RTA) offices on April 7. Vigilance named Dhillon in previous FIR on Wednesday.
Sources said Dhillon absconded soon after learning that his name had been included in the FIR. The action was reportedly taken following the approval of chief secretary KAP Sinha.
During a raid at the driving test centre in Sector 82, Mohali, the vigilance team apprehended a private individual, Sukhwinder Singh, who was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 to help a candidate pass the driving test. Following his arrest and questioning, Dhillon's name surfaced in the investigation.
According to the vigilance bureau, a total of 24 people were arrested across Punjab during the raids on RTA offices and driving test centres. Officials registered 16 FIRs and recovered Rs 40,900 in cash from alleged middlemen, who were reportedly collecting money from citizens in exchange for facilitating driving licences and other transport-related services.
The vigilance bureau has intensified efforts to locate Dhillon.
